FAQ

Who can use your layouts?

  • Anyone! I design solely for Diaryland but if you are knowledgable enough to convert your chosen template to work on Diary-X/Blogger etc then go ahead. Please note that I do not know how to convert the templates myself, so please don't ask.

  • You must have some HTML knowledge because I cannot help people put up or edit their diaries. I am a busy girl with a full life ya know!

Do you host images for everybody to use?

  • Yes, and I am happy to do so ^_^ but please be aware that I cannot, at any time, guarentee that they will work 100% of the time. I also cannot guarentee that they will not be deleted so it's best that you get some space of your own. Try here and here.

Am I allowed to change your layout a bit (colours, images etc)?

  • Yes, this is absolutely fine, but please still leave my link up. Even if the colours and image are totally different to my original I still went to the trouble of creating it, so please leave the link. If you get a flash of HTML inspiration and edit all the layers/tables and more, so that it doesn't resemble mine AT ALL then maybe it's ok :o)

How come you don't use coloured scoll bars?

  • Heh! I do, I just have a really crappy old version of IE that doesn't support them. My computer has also been a bit poorly which means I can't download a better version! Just copy and paste the code into your diary and 9 times out of 10 you will find a pretty matching scroll bar.

How do you make your layouts?

  • When I first started creating layouts I only owned a very early version of PSP. It was naff but I coped. Then I discovered the wonders of Adobe Photoshop 7 and have never looked back. All of the funky swirls and stars and decorations are made from brushes in PS7. I also use a mixture of hand-coding and Dreamweaver to create the layouts. These are expensive tools but a must for any wannabe designer

Can you teach me how to make layouts?

  • I'm sorry... but I just can't. I've had many e-mails and messages from people asking me if I can help them and the truth is I just don't have the time. I taught myself HTML and how to use Photoshop and it's just as simple for you to learn aswell.

  • If you're really desperate to learn I suggest Lissa Explains as a good place to start with HTML. As for Photoshop, while there are some great tutorials online I believe the best way to learn is just to try... don't be afraid!

    Do you offer free customs?

  • NO! And stop asking me. If you have some £££ or some $$$ then i will happily oblige :o)

    SOME HTML AND DIARYLAND LESSONS:

Why aren't my older entries changing to the new layout?

  • After contacting Diaryland ages ago I found out that it does happen, it just takes time. There is a way around this of course. If you go to edit each of your entries and hit the "make changes" button (you don't have to actually change anything) it will then show up fine. However this is time consuming :o(

    How do I make a cast/rings/reviews page?

  • If I had a pound for everytime someone asked me this I'd be rich. Unfortunately I don't, so I'm putting the answer here to try and stop the emails I'm getting!

    To create a cast page:

  • Go to Add an entry on Diaryland.
  • Scroll down to the last small text box on the page (called: name of this html page) and write in 'cast'.
  • Copy the contents of of the box below (as many times as you need) and replace all of the text that is in CAPITALS with your friends name & mini-biography.

  • Finally, hit save and you're all done. (To view my cast page go here)

    To create a rings page:

  • Go to Add an entry on Diaryland.
  • Scroll down to the last small text box on the page (called: name of this html page) and write in 'rings'.
  • Go here to view all the rings that you belong to and get the code (it will look like %%diaryring _ diaryringname%%)
  • Copy all of your codes and then save. Voila! You now have a rings page. (To view mine go here)

    To create a reviews page:

  • Go to Add an entry on Diaryland.
  • Scroll down to the last small text box on the page (called: name of this html page) and write in 'reviews'.
  • Copy and paste the code below for your PENDING REVIEWS and replace everything that is in CAPITALS to whatever review site you want to link.

  • After you have been reviewed you will want to show off your wonderful score, so copy and paste the code below and change the words in CAPITALS to reflect your COMPLETE REVIEW.

  • And finally, there is your reviews page all done and dusted. (To view mine go here)

How do I stop my older pages looking all squashed and crappy?

  • Go to this page and paste the code below into the text box.

  • Don't edit anything, just hit save.

Please remember that if the answer is here, I will NOT reply to you email. It's not my fault if you don't understand (especially as I have practically done it for you!!) If you couldn't find the answer to your question try here.
